Wired, uma célebre revista mensal norte-americana, lançou online um concurso e publicou recentemente um artigo ilustrando as melhores fotografias captadas por microscópio (técnica apelidada de fotomicrografia), ao longo destes últimos 35 anos.
Nestas imagens podemos observar com incrível detalhe, por exemplo, o orgão sexual masculino, o embrião de um rato, plantas, cristais, etc.
